Razor Gator is All About Green

The word green is closely related to the Old English verb growan, “to grow”. It is used to describe plants or the ocean. Sometimes it can also describe someone who is inexperienced, jealous, or sick. In America, green is a slang term for money, among other things. Several colloquialisms have derived from these meanings, such as “green around the gills”, a phrase used to describe a person who looks ill.

However you look at it, Razor Gator is all about green. Here are some interesting facts about the color green:

Perhaps due to its overwhelming presence in nature, green is also the color that rests most center of the retina in the eye. Thus, when receptor cells in the eye pick up light waves, vision is most receptive to green due to how easy the retina can absorb it. Because of this, green provides an ideal environment for relaxation, concentration and meditation.

History and Lore: A symbol of nature. In Egypt the floors of the temple were green. Among the Greeks and Moors, it signified victory. To the Muslims it is a sacred color. They carry a green flag, wear green turbans after they have made a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca, and design their prayer rugs with a green background. The Scottish Highlanders wore green as a mark of honor. It is the national color of Ireland. Leonardo da Vinci declared that green represented water. In China it denotes east.

Daily Uses: Green is used to specify "go" on traffic signals and to designate first-aid equipment. Chlorophyll, which is produced by plants, is recognized for its soothing effects on the nerves and its ability to sustain heart action. In the home, green is a good color for the bedroom because of its tranquilizing influence on the body as well as the mind; in the kitchen, it tends to stimulate creativity in food preparation. Also recommended for workshops. Clear to light shades are best.

Green is found in such foods as avocados, lettuce, parsley, peas, peppers, string beans, watercress, and zucchini.
